There are words for ‘run’ (like sa3a) but this word sounds more like baqiya (to be lasting such as 55/27). As such I prefer to see this as ‘he sought every lastingness’. In other words yunus (the personality in question) was seeking his perpetual existence with the laden ship instead of Allah.
