Ch 2 Vs 47-48 (The Preference of Allah)

Here bani israil are told to vivify the blessings of Allah upon them and that they were preferred over the worlds. Then they’re told to preserve themselves from a day where no soul can avail another. So personal responsibility seems to be the only way to achieve this ‘tafadhdhal’ state (preferred state). This would make sense given that the nafs is the centre of change (13/11 and 8/53) and that we achieve nafs muthma’innah (soul at peace, 89/27-30), we are called to the garden.

These two verses are repeated almost verbatim in 2/122-123.
